Focus of the Role

Role Summary

The Global Philanthropy Partners (GPP) team at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) is responsible for securing private philanthropic capital and delivering the wider Business Development & Income agenda for the Institute. This role will build out GPP’s engagements across Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA) including shaping and executing a new strategy to expand the Institute’s network of philanthropists who are seeking to achieve transformational change at scale. As such, this is an exciting time to join the team.

The Head, Philanthropic Investments (EMEA) is responsible for developing, accelerating, and maintaining a strategy-based pipeline of philanthropic supporters, primarily at the annual and major gift level (five and six-figures), with expectation to close gifts from Year 1. The core aspects will be overseeing the full donor cycle, ultimately soliciting philanthropic dollars from individuals. This includes preparing prospect engagement strategies and proposals for your own pipeline development and in time through a team. The winning candidate will collaborate with regional, BD&I leadership and the executive office to support principal level engagement with donors, as needed.

The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial self-starter with a history of securing funds at the six-figure level at minimum. Knowledge of fundraising best practices and the philanthropic landscape across European and Middle East markets is essential, with existing networks and contacts into family offices in place.

This role will be based in the London HQ. The Head, Philanthropic Investments (EMEA) will lead specific fundraising activities with colleagues across TBI and leverage colleagues in the regional hub. This role is within the Global Business Development & Income division of TBI, and part of the wider Strategy & Partnerships department (S&P). S&P is one of three external facing business critical departments, the other two being: Policy & Politics, and Global Government Advisory. The S&P department leads and oversees the Institute’s strategic direction and growth, with specific responsibility for futureproofing growth, developing scalable partnerships, innovating in tech and securing financial resources to measurably advance the Institute’s operational goals and drive sustainable impact. This is a rewarding role that wil contribute to the development of new, innovative fundraising initiatives.

Key Responsibilities


  • Develop and execute a strategy that’s relevant to the region and value proposition.
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of 300 qualified prospects with capacity for six-figure gifts
  • Directly and in time, through others; raise philanthropic funds in support of the Institute’s bold initiatives, hitting annual targets as developed with the Director, Global Philanthropy Partners.
  • Develop thorough knowledge of the Institute’s programmes in order to develop collateral materials, proposals for philanthropic support and reporting in line with donor expectations and requirements
  • Develop thorough knowledge of team’s needs to provide proactive, efficient, and expedient resources and support


  • Work with colleagues across the BD&I and Business Operations teams to support the internal reporting cadence of progress toward targets and metrics
  • Manage and oversee additional fundraising related projects as they arise and are identified by team members.
  • Collaborate with the Global Head of Stakeholder & Donor Relations as needed for the generation of briefings, profiles, and other donor materials.
  • Develop the portfolio of donors and grow the team to reflect resource needs for a successful operation.


  • Work closely with all teams to maintain database integrity and perform routine prospect data clean-up
  • Track fundraising activities in database for all managed prospects

Person Specification

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of ten years of frontline fundraising related experience, preferably at an international non-profit or in a relationships management role, and a Bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of fundraising best practices and the philanthropic landscape across the geographies for this role, is essential, as is a history of securing funds at the six-figure level. A strong contact network into family offices will further strengthen the ideal candidate’s hand to succeed. Team leadership and general management skills will be essential for future ambitions.

We seek a detail-orientated and agile colleague, who exhibits exceptional judgement, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues around the globe. Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, strong presentation skills and a high degree of professionalism are essential, as we interact and engage with high-level staff, donors, board members, and sensitive information.

An interest in international development, politics, and global affairs is strongly recommended.
