Focus of the Role

The Social Media and Digital Marketing Officer is an exciting and important role, delivering the Institute’s central social media strategy day-to-day, creating new content and approaches to engage with large and global public audiences and stakeholders across a range of complex themes and geographies.

This role reports to the Director of Engagement and works within the Engagement Team as part of the wider the Communications and Marketing division

Job Introduction

The postholder will be expected to build strong working relationships across the Institute, including colleagues at all levels across the wider Communications and Marketing division and planning leads across Policy Futures and the Government Advisory Practice.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Deliver the social media elements of the TBI-wide strategy for public audience engagement, including using data insight and testing to identify and reach engaged public audiences with our work
  • Deliver the Principal’s engagement strategy with target, engaged public audiences via social media channels and digital marketing approaches
  • Report on the status and progress of TBI’s and the Principal’s engagement on social media
  • Work closely with Policy colleagues to deliver the strategy for communicating and influencing policy change, with a focus on priority policy audiences
  • Working with the other Communications and Marketing leads, develop and share digital content that is strategic; curate and weave a clear, consistent and accessible narrative that speaks to our mission, and advise teams across the organisation as needed to achieve this
  • Work with Government Advisory colleagues deliver a strategy to position and communicate our Government Advisory work to relevant audiences, as appropriate for these channels

Accountability

  • Regularly create and post content to central TBI social media channels
  • Regularly report on response to content and suggest new and creative approaches where appropriate
  • Support the Social Media and Digital Marketing Manager on sharing best practice sharing and training on social media across the Institute
  • Support collaboration with teams across the Institute
  • Work with other members of staff at all levels across the Institute to ensure that the overall digital approach is joined up, both in terms of planning and delivery
  • Support and deliver the social media aspects of the identification, growth and engagement with a like-minded public audience base, and of any channels and approaches required in achieving this

Responsibility

  • Support the Social Media and Digital Marketing Manager in working with colleagues in Policy Futures as required to develop content through which the Principal can engage with target public audiences on central TBI social media channels and these audiences can be grown
  • Work with colleagues in Policy Futures and wider Communications and Marketing colleagues to deliver the strategy for communicating and influencing policy change
  • Work with Government Advisory and wider Communications and Marketing colleagues to plan, develop and create content and materials to support goals as needed
  • Ensure that the Institute is well represented on social media; showcasing the work, leading and taking part in discussions
  • Ensure any relevant topics or opportunities seen on social media are acted on and/or sent to the relevant team/s for follow up
  • Develop website and email content
  • Proactively spot engagement opportunities and implement them

Judgement

  • Apply sound judgement to creating and sharing content on the Institute’s social media channels
  • Use sound judgement to advise teams across the Institute on how best to use social media and digital marketing to showcase their work and impact

  • Use knowledge and experience of digital, public engagement, campaigning and/or advocacy trends, alongside data insight, to drive new and cutting-edge approaches to not only match others in this field, but set us apart from them

Stay up-to-date with best practice and new innovation, sharing and implementing these within our social media and digital marketing efforts

Person Specification

This is a role in a fast-paced team, working in a highly scrutinised environment. The successful candidate for the role should be able to demonstrate the majority of the following:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • High levels of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience in developing mass and targeted public engagement strategies for high profile individuals and/or organisations, both online and offline
  • Experience in running and creating digital channels and tools to build and engage mass and targeted public audiences in complex topics
  • Experience in profile-building, be that for an organisation, brand or individual(s)
  • Experience in target audience identification and targeting, including working with data modelling and/or polling to develop these audiences
  • Experience of working in similarly high-profile communications, political or campaigning environments, and evidential sound political nous
  • Experience of working with senior stakeholders, reporting on progress and suggesting approaches in these areas
  • Superb organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to work reactively, under pressure and to deadlines
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and perform other duties as reasonably required to achieve the goals of your team and the Institute
  • The ability and willingness to work outside standard work hours frequently, and to travel both domestically and internationally as required
