Focus of the Role
The Tony Blair Institute (TBI) is a purpose-driven, not-for-profit organisation, with a mission to equip leaders to build open, prosperous and inclusive societies. Our Advisory Practice works directly with political leaders and governments around the world to implement reforms that improve the lives of their citizens. It has both non-profit partners and a client base and its outputs cover a range of disciplines and projects across countries in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and South Asia. We are currently in a rapid expansion phase from c. 18 countries at present, to 30 by December 2022.
Our Policy Futures work encompasses three broad areas:
· Renewing the Centre: developing a bold and innovative domestic policy programme to help renew the centre ground of British politics;
· Tech and Public Policy: exploring the policy challenges and opportunities presented by the technological revolution; and
· Extremism Policy Unit: creating solutions designed to tackle the threat of extremist ideologies in the UK and around the world.

TBI’s Institute Resources Team supports and helps pave the way for the Institute to deliver its mission. We are comprised of Legal and Risk, Finance, IT, Ops & Security and People Team.
We develop and deliver policies and processes that drive our working practices, mirror our values, and that are aligned with our strategic objectives. We ensure that our organisational capabilities equip us to meet current and future challenges.
The People Team is an innovative, focussed and fast paced team which works closely with all parts of the Institute to to create a talented, engaged and high performing workforce.
The Talent Acquisition Advisor is a key role in the People Team as our organisation rapidly grows in 2021 and beyond: our existing programmes are expanding, we will be undertaking work in a further c13-15 new countries in the next two years, and rolling out an ambitious new tech-based partnership.
This is an initial 12 month fixed term role to support the Director of People in the recruitment of over 70 key roles in a short period of time across our Government Advisory and Policy Futures teams, across 15 countries. The role will be a critical, external facing role which will help shape the growth of the Institute through the attraction of exceptional talent.
- Working closely with the People Team, be an ambassador for the Institute in our recruitment processes
- Have line management responsibility for a Recruitment Co-Ordinator
- Working closely with the Director of People, HR Business Partners and Hiring Managers, define, develop and embed a hiring strategy for each new role allocated to the Talent Acquisition Adviser, driven by the needs of the relevant team or division and funding requirements
- Develop and implement new and innovative methods of talent acquisition, measuring performance through key metrics and continuously improving standards
- Undertake a clear, process driven briefing process with all Hiring Managers for each role
- Undertake active search for candidates through LinkedIn or other relevant talent platforms
- Work with our Recruitment Co-Ordinators to ensure that all new roles are posted on our ATS and LinkedIn life page
- Work with Hiring Managers to thoroughly and efficiently sift all applications made through our ATS
- Being an ambassador for the Instiute, undertake screening calls with initial short listed candidates
- Present an articulate and thorough shortlist to Hiring Managers for each role, based upon all competences and ambition
- Working with our Recruitment Co-Ordinators, support Hiring Managers through interview processes in order to help identify successful candidates
- Engage with successful candidates to present and where necessary, negotitiate, offers of employment and work closely with Hiring Managers and HR Business Partners to ensure that successful candidates have a positive and engaging experience in their onboarding to the Institute
This is a key role in the People Team and will help shape and grow the recruitment function to provide excellent talent for the Institute at a time of significant employee growth. The successful candidate should possess a commitment to an outstanding candidate recruitment journey, exemplary communication skills, outstanding attention to detail, eagerness to excel, a capability to grow in their role and be able to demonstrate the majority of the following:
- A minimum of five to seven years’ of inhouse or agency recruitment experience
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
- A proven ability to analyse, interpret and communicate complex and fast-moving information to senior stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, problem-solving attitude, and ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team player
- Strong influencing, negotiation and numeracy skills
- Excellent verbal communication, writing, researching and editing skills. Fluency in written and spoken English
- Excellent diplomacy, discretion and ability to engage with individuals at all levels is essential
- An innovative approach to talent acquisition, demonstrating the ability to consult effectively with key stakeholders to identify true needs
- Strong IT skills and ability to learn new systems easily
- Strong experience in use of an ATS and if possible, Tribepad
- Flexible working style and ability to support Hiring Managers in numerous jurisdictions or learn quickly and with ambiguity
- Experience of working with senior internal stakeholders
- Experience in a start-up environment, not-for-profit, consulting firm, or think-tank (desirable)
- Knowledge of UK employment law (desirable)
